Zakynthos Beaches: The island of Zakynthos has some of the most
beautiful beaches in Greece
BEACH (Shipwreck) The Shipwreck is the most famous of the beaches of Zakynthos Greece. It is situated on the eastern part of the island, near the village of Anafotiria. The official name of the beach is Agios Georgios.
The beach took it name from the ship that transported illegally cigarettes in 1983, and washed up on the beach which, with the years passing, grew up around it.
The ruins of the ship are in the middle of a beautiful white sandy beach with crystalline waters. The beach is surrounded by vertical rocky cliffs, creating a very impressive picture.
This beach is one of the trademarks of the island and is photographed by thousands of visitors.
The beach is only accessible by boat from the small harbour of Porto Vromi. There is a boat every hour and the boat trip lasts about half an hour.
ARGASI BEACH AND
The beach of Argassi is situated 5 km from the island’s capital. It is a 1 km long sandy beach that also offers water sports facilities. Due to its proximity to the capital, Argassi became a popular touristy area which attracts every year many foreign visitors. The Argassi village is cut by a road lined from both side by a number of hotels, taverns, bars and tourist shops.
LAGANAS BEACH AND RESORT
Laganas is the most developed and crowded of Zakynthos beaches. It is situated 11 km south of the island’s capital. Laganas is characterised by a 9 km long sandy beach with clear water. The entire beach is covered by sun beds and umbrellas. It also offers water sports facilities. The beach is lined with many beach bars, canteens and taverns.
LIMNI KERIOU BEACH
The beach of Keri is situated in the south of the island. It is a small and peaceful resort located on a beautiful bay with crystalline waters. Along the bay, a couple of taverns and café-bars can be found.
The bay offers a beautiful view over the islet of Marathonissi. From the small picturesque port, organised boat tours can take you to the famous Blue Caves.
ALYKES AND ALYKANAS
Alykes is situated 18 km northwest of the island’s capital. The area took it name from the many salt-pits (alykes in Greek) that are located behind the village. They were for a long time the main source of wealth of the island. Alykes has a beautiful sandy beach which attracts many visitors.
The main road that cuts the settlement is lined with many restaurants, bars and tourist shops. Many accommodations are located in the area.
Alykanas is situated a couple of kilometres before Alykes. It is a coastal settlement, less popular than Alykes. Alykanas has a beautiful sandy beach which is the extension of the beach of Alykes. The area is of great archaeological importance.
TSILIVI BEACH AND RESORT
Tsilivi is situated 6 km of the island’s capital. It is long sandy beach with calm waters offering many water sports facilities.
The village of Tsilivi attracts many visitors. It is a recent settlement that is continuously developed. There are many hotels, apartments, studios, restaurants, bars and tourist shop.
KALAMAKI BEACH AND RESORT
Kalamaki is situated at the end of the east side of the bay of Laganas, 7 km south of the island’s capital. It is a small but crowded beach resort that attracts many visitors as it is considered as one of the most beautiful Zakynthos beaches.
The beach, as well as Laganas, is subject to national and international legislation in order to protect the sea turtle Caretta-Caretta. It is also part of the National Marine Park.
The beach is dominated by an impressive rock formation from which one can admire a beautiful panoramic view over the area of Laganas.

The beaches of the area of Vassilikos
- Porto Zoro:
A picturesque sandy beach situated 17 km of the island’s capital. The beach has a couple of taverns and some rooms to let.

- Banana Beach:
It is considered as one of the most beautiful of Zakynthos beaches. It is a long sandy beach with clear waters. There are few beach bars offering some shade and some sun beds and umbrellas rentals.
- Agios Nikolaos: It is a smaller beach than Banana but just as beautiful. The beach took it name from the little chapel that is situated in the left side end of the beach. It is lined by a restaurant and bar. Water sports facilities and scuba diving courses are available.
The area has a number of hotels, studios and rooms to let.
- Porto Roma: The beach took its name from the Zakynthian personality, Alexandros Romas. It is a picturesque and peaceful sandy beach with crystal waters.
Gerakas is considered as one of the most beautiful Zakynthos beaches. It is a long sandy beach with crystal waters.
It is a beach subject to the national and international legislation in order to protect the sea turtle Caretta-Caretta.
This is the reason why the beach has kept its natural beauty: no restaurants, bars or hotels. A real paradise…
